Andy
Klunder: Biography
I
trained originally as a painter and sculptor at Winchester School
of Art and the Slade School, although in retrospect it seems to have
been a very autodidactic process.
For several years I made sculpture and exhibited it occasionally,
whilst at the same time teaching in art schools to earn a living.
I also made brief sporadic forays into costume and set design for
the ballet, most notably and enduringly Kenneth Macmillan's 'Gloria'
for the Royal Ballet. A few years ago I gave up making sculpture and
took up climbing and mountaineering instead, as an altogether more
centred and exhilarating occupation. In 2003 I went on an extended
trip to the mountainous regions of Ladakh and Nepal, and New Zealand.
I didn't take a camera, but bought a cheap second hand one in New
Zealand with which the first images of this project were taken. I
still teach sculpture in (an) art school but defining what sculpture
is in that context is an ever changing and dynamic process. |
